How many hours do I need to meet the State Board requirements for CPE? 
2006-07 CPE Requirements for the Colorado State Board of Accountancy are as follows:

Active Certificate - 80 hours over two years - Must include a minimum of 30 hours in any combination of tax, accounting and auditing, management consulting services, financial planning, accounting related computer sciences, or specialized industry accounting, plus two hours of Colorado Rules & Regulations (CR&R) or general ethics. 100% can be completed in self-study. Newly licensed CPAs must take an ethics course that includes CR&R in their first renewal period.

Inactive Certificate - No CPE is required.

Certificates Issued During Renewal Period - 10 hours for every full quarter left in reporting period.

To Reactivate - For Rules regarding reactivation and reinstatement: Go to the State Board home page and click on Rules. Scroll to Chapter 5 of the Rules, specifically 5.3 B&C.

Please note: The membership requirement for CSCPA members with inactive certificates is different from the State Board's requirement

I passed the CPA Exam, and I need to take the AICPA (PE) ethics self-study course. How much is this, and how can I receive it?

The AICPA ethics course is a self-study book, so you will study and take the exam independently.  You may fill out the answer sheet and mail it in with the addressed envelope provided in the book or you can use the a code from the answer sheet and answer the test questions online.  The exam expires one year from the purchase date. I am in the process of reactivating my license, or getting reciprocity in the state of Colorado. How many hours of ethics do I need? And how do I satisfy this requirement?

To reactivate or reinstate an expired certificate, one must have two hours of CR&R. To qualify for reciprocity, one must successfully take and pass the AICPA Ethics course if not taken for original licensing in another state.

16-hour courses: Check-in for most courses begins at 8:00 a.m. and courses run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m, which includes a 1-hour lunch break. You must attend all 16 hours to receive full credit. How many hours do I need to meet the Society's CPE requirements?

For 2006-07, CPE requirements for Fellow and Associate members of the Colorado Society of CPAs are:
 
Active Certificate with the Colorado State Board of Accountancy - Engaged in public practice - 80 hours
 
Active Certificate with the Colorado State Board of Accountancy - Not engaged in public practice - 80 hours
 
Inactive Certificate with Colorado Board of Accountancy - Not engaged in public practice - 60 hours
 
Students, firm administrators and retired members - No CPE requirement.

What members are exempt from taking CPE credit for the Colorado Society?

Waiver- You may request a waiver of the membership CPE requirements if you are prohibited from fulfilling it for the reasons below. Send your request and documentation to the CPE Compliance Committee. When your status changes from the one for which the exception applies, your CPE requirement begins in the calendar year following the change. When requesting a waiver, please include information described here:
  • Foreign Residency: Include the country of residence, the name of the employer, the principal duties and responsibilities performed, and the reason(s) foreign residency prohibits fulfilling the requirement.

  • Health: Include the nature of the illness, the name and address of the attending physician, and the reason the illness prohibits fulfilling the requirement.

  • Military Service: Include the principal duties performed, where stationed, the name and address of commanding officer, and reason why military service prohibits fulfilling the requirement.

  • Other Similar Hardship Reasons: Include the nature of the hardship and the reason why it prohibits fulfilling the requirement.

May I register at the course site on the day of the class?

 We do accept walk-in registrations if space and materials are available; however, in order for us to plan adequately for each event, we strongly recommend that you register in advance. Walk-ins must pay the higher non member fee.

How early should I register for a class?

Please register as early as possible to be assured there is space. Courses with too few registrants will be cancelled seven days before the program.
