How to Become a CPA

There are four requirements to become a Colorado CPA: 

  • Education - Earn a college degree in accounting from an accredited college or university.
  • Uniform CPA Exam - Pass the exam. Details on applying can be obtained from the CPA Exam Services.
  • Experience - Obtain experience in accordance with state requirements. Information can be found on the Colorado State Board of Accountancy Web site.
  • AICPA Ethics Course - Complete the AICPA Ethics Course, an 11-hour self-study course that may be taken online or through correspondence. Contact the CPE department at (800) 523-9082 for details on the course.
