Member Opportunities

There are many opportunities to get involved with the COCPA – to Connect & Succeed. The following mission critical committees, task forces, and forums are always seeking new volunteers. In addition, the Member Forums offer the opportunity for you to connect with your peers who have similar interests, hear a variety of speakers, and share resources. If you’re interested in becoming involved with any of the following, contact the staff liaison noted.

CFO/Controllers Roundtable

The mission of the CFO Executive Roundtable is to bring accounting and finance leaders of all industries together for knowledge, networking, and of course FUN. The group meets the fourth Friday of the month. Morning meetings include a networking continental breakfast, informational speakers, general discussion, and Q&A.

Editorial Board

The Editorial Board meets bimonthly to provide input on specific areas of expertise to help the COCPA create communications materials, such as NewsAccount, NewsQuick, and social media networks that are rich in content, pertinent to member needs, timely, and interesting. The COCPA receives articles for NewsAccount from outside sources. Board members may be asked to review these articles to determine if they’re meaningful to members and appropriate to print. For board members who are interested in writing articles, that opportunity will also be available.

Federal Taxation Forum

The forum plans and holds events to assist members in maintaining and expanding their professional competence in federal taxation. It sponsors the annual liaison meeting with the Internal Revenue Service.

Firm Administrators

The COCPA hosts the Colorado Chapter of Accounting Administrators Association (AAA) for a monthly meeting, held the third Wednesday of every month. The meetings are held over the lunch hour and feature either a speaker or an open roundtable for idea sharing.

Governmental Issues Forum

This forum provides guidance on current implementation issues and legislative matters; maintains liaison with the governmental financial community and practitioners; responds to exposure drafts from GASB, AICPA, and OMB; works on governmental standards overload; and on a confidential basis, reviews governmental audit reports voluntarily submitted by members for educational review.

Young Professionals

This committee plans and implements activities, events, and resources for younger COCPA members and supports the development of future COCPA leaders. The committee identifies opportunities for professional, educational, and social interaction among new professionals.

20/20 Committee

This committee focuses on developing, implementing, and evaluating strategic initiatives for the COCPA and advises the Board of Directors on future professional, organizational, structure, and governance issues. Members are appointed based on their involvement with the COCPA, their expertise in specific professional areas, and their commitment to creating a vibrant future for the CPA profession.

Regulatory Affairs

This committee focuses on state regulation of the accounting profession and maintains liaison with the Colorado State Board of Accountancy, monitors legislative and regulatory issues, and proposes legislative and regulatory changes.

*Peer Review Board

The board administers the AICPA Peer Review program in Colorado and focuses on quality performance in accounting and auditing engagements and works to reduce or eliminate substandard performance through educational and remedial means.

Professional Conduct Board

The board considers ethics matters received from members and others, participates with the AICPA in the Joint Ethics Enforcement Program to maintain high ethical standards, and assists in developing, interpreting, publicizing, and enforcing the Code of Professional Conduct.

Public Company Practice Forum

This forum works to improve awareness of the issues pertaining to publicly held companies and the quality of reporting and compliance with SEC and PCAOB matters including the effects of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

Financial Literacy Committee

The COCPA Financial Literacy Committee has developed programs to promote financial literacy to women, children, and low income families since 2005. The task force works in conjunction with the American Institute of CPAs and the Ad Council to present programs on financial education. Members of the task force are Colorado CPAs who believe in financial education for all individuals from all walks of life.

Arbitration Committee

This panel of experts resolves fee disputes between CPAs and clients by providing free arbitration services.

Education Task Force 

This committee develops and offers programs to attract qualified high school and college students into accounting careers and works with faculty to strengthen accounting education in Colorado.

Reimbursement
