Meet the team that’s working for you.
As part of the COCPA leadership team, Mary helps shape the future of the COCPA. Have a question about State Board rules or what the Colorado Department of Revenue is up to? Mary is your go-to. She’s also your resource on legislative issues as well as state and national initiatives. Need someone to facilitate group process or speak on professional issues? Mary can do that. What she doesn’t do is accounting; the COCPA has highly qualified people for that. She describes herself as very, very, very (did we mention very?) particular about doing whatever she and the team do, really well – especially when it comes to member service and support. An avid fan of the arts, Mary always is up for a gallery tour, concert, musical theater production, or good read. Throw in travel, and she’s ready to go.
As Executive Assistant, Kelli provides administrative support to Chief Executive Officer Mary Medley and Chief Operating Officer/Chief Learning Officer Rebecca Campbell, as well as manages general office operations and supports COCPA groups and activities. This is Kelli’s second stint with the Society; she worked in the public relations department as her first job out of college … more years ago than she cares to admit! Her favorite vacation was spent with her mom and sister, traveling through Germany and The Netherlands in 2018, including stops in the German cities where she lived through age 2.
As Chief Financial Officer, Alicia oversees COCPA financial operations, manages relationships with our financial partners, and works tirelessly to determine how we can continue to add value to the member experience.
A Nebraska native, Alicia was first introduced to the great state of Colorado during early childhood, which led her to return to attend college, and, thankfully, she decided to stay a Coloradan. We appreciate having her expertise, work ethic, and positive energy at the office.
When she’s not working, Alicia enjoys spending time with her husband and the newest addition to their family: an adorable shelter rescue puppy named Ally.
As COCPA’s Accounting & Reporting Specialist, Magda ensures the daily, weekly, and monthly accounting requirements are covered and the financial operations are sound. Magda is the oldest of five, which means you’ll often find her spending time with her family when she’s not in the office. She considers the trip she took to Costa Rica the best vacation she ever took – but these days, she’s just as happy to enjoy being at home with her family.
Julie has been supporting the COCPA finance team with special projects for the past 3 years and became a full-time member in October 2020. In her position as Accounting and HR Specialist, she handles payroll, expenses, and benefits administration. She also helps to coordinate the Educational Foundation’s activities. Outside of the office, you can find Julie volunteering, and exploring the outdoors with her husband and her very spoiled fur baby, Esmee. The most memorable vacation she ever took was to the Arctic Circle to see the Aurora Borealis. “It was truly amazing!”
Looking for someone equally comfortable with big-picture strategy and day-to-day tactics? That’s Certified Association Executive Rebecca Campbell. She oversees COCPA’s daily operations and implementation of our strategic plan. Often tapped by other organizations for her thought leadership, she speaks nationally and currently serves as the Chair of ASAE’s Professional Development Professionals Advisory Council. The best vacation she ever took was a road trip to Miami with her daughters. Her five dream Jeopardy categories would be Top Vacation Spots; Books You Have to Read; Top Movies to See; Benefits of Taking a Nap; and Nachos, Nachos, and More Nachos.
Tiffany is a rockstar when it comes to our CPE-related events and information. As CPE Operations Manager, she handles logistics and operations for COCPA conferences, seminars, and on-site programs. Her attention to detail and dedication to our members are always top of mind. On weekends, Tiffany can be found skiing, spending time with her husband, friends, and family. During the season in Tiffany’s household, Sundays are reserved solely for the Denver Broncos.
Sheila joined the COCPA in 2019 to “help with special projects.” A year later, her experience in operations support and customer service have been instrumental. Whether it is ensuring CPE courses are available for our members, helping out in Peer Review, or countless special projects, Sheila has excelled and has quickly become an essential member of the team. Sheila’s time off often consists of her favorite activities, cooking, and BBQs with family and friends.
Pamela registers and assists members with CPE course registrations, membership renewals, and continuing education inquiries. She helps the public find answers to their licensing questions, and acts as liaison to the Public Company forum. Outside of work, Pamela enjoys nature, hosting gatherings with close friends and family, and researching/learning about pretty much anything. In her free time, she is a volunteer for various community service projects.
As Engagement and Programs Specialist, Stacy aims to improve and expand the journey of our members by creating member connection opportunities. At any given time, she can be found working closely as liaison to our dynamic committees, regional chapters, special interest groups, volunteers, new CPAs, students, accounting educators, COCPA Connect, and the Educational Foundation.
In her free time, Stacy enjoys spending time with family, doing everything from snowboarding to working in the backyard. And while she loves Colorado, she really relishes the times when she’s able to travel home to O’ahu to boogie board and visit family and friends.
As the Student and Faculty Engagement Representative, Kathryn is passionate about helping students and educators thrive personally and professionally, particularly through service and connection opportunities.
While Kathryn loves the amazing hiking, adventure, and dining scene in Colorado, she also enjoys traveling to new places, visiting her hometown of Louisville, KY, and returning to Nyack, New York – where she previously lived for nine years – whenever she gets the chance.
Member and Business Development
World class: that’s the type of experience Derrol works to bring every member of COCPA. Derrol collaborates with members and staff to develop and implement programs, activities, and resources that support members and further COCPA’s mission. A second-generation Coloradan, you can usually find Derrol playing golf, spending time with his family, and cooking up new dishes whenever he can. The best vacation he ever took was a four-week jaunt through Italy – complete with plenty of wine and a Mediterranean cruise.
In her newly created role as Member and Business Development Coordinator, Cheryl provides administrative support to Director of Member and Business Development Derrol Moorhead, including working with COCPA Preferred Partners and assisting with member benefit programs. Cheryl is excited to join the COCPA and has previously worked as an operating room nurse and middle school office administrator. She loves spending her free time with family, friends, and her fur babies. Having been born and raised in Southern California, Cheryl’s favorite vacations are those surrounded by lakes or the beach … anything near the water!
Peer Review Department
Marilee provides the professional credibility and experience required to manage the COCPA’s Peer Review Program. She oversees the COCPA’s peer review committee, technical reviewers, and the review acceptance process. And, she works with Jill Turner who is responsible for the day to day administration of the Program.
Nationally recognized for her expertise in employee benefit plans, Marilee formerly was an audit partner with KPMG, auditing wineries, hotels, and clothing manufacturers. Her most memorable vacation was chartering a sailboat in the Caribbean Islands for two weeks – no internet, no phone, no computer – just sunshine, warm water, and fun. Marilee resides outside of San Francisco. In her free time, she serves on the board of her Neighbor Response Team to assist others in emergencies and volunteers to help older adults so they can continue to live in their own homes.
Ask her what she loves, besides her family, and Jill is quick to answer enthusiastically, “My job!” As COCPA’s Peer Review Coordinator, she works with CPAs, firms, and reviewers to comply with the Colorado State Board of Accountancy’s mandatory peer review requirements, fulfilled through the AICPA Peer Review Program. A veteran staff member, Jill also provides backup support for her Member Service colleagues and is our office-wide burst of sunshine, even on cloudy days. Her biography would be titled, The Bio-Epic of Jill Turner. Her best vacation ever: that trip to Hawaii where she went snorkeling. “It was amazing!”
