Join us for a conversation about the 2024 CPA Exam Blueprint and the AICPA Foundational Competencies Framework for Aspiring CPAs.
The Exposure Draft (ED), Maintaining the Relevance of the Uniform CPA Examination® – Aligning the Exam with the CPA Evolution Licensure Model, presents an informed and thoughtful proposal for the 2024 CPA Exam. This ED, including the draft Uniform CPA Examination Blueprints (the CPA Exam Blueprints), presents the findings and conclusions of a Practice Analysis (PA) conducted by the AICPA under the oversight of the BOE and its Practice Analysis Sponsor Group. The PA focused on aligning the CPA Exam to the CPA Evolution licensure model. Comments were accepted until September 30, 2022, so after considering all comments, the final CPA Exam Blueprints should be approved in December 2022 and published in January 2023, with a planned Exam launch in January 2024. This schedule provides stakeholders about a year to plan for the 2024 CPA Exam as described in the draft CPA Exam.
AICPA Foundational Competencies Framework for Aspiring CPAs was developed by educators and accounting professionals to define a set of skills-based competencies students entering the accounting profession need, regardless of their chosen career path (public/industry/government/not-for-profit), or for the specific accounting services they’ll eventually perform. Due to the rapidly changing accounting profession, the framework focuses on critical skills instead of traditional subject-content areas or accounting services. Although knowledge requirements will change with time, the core set of competencies the framework identifies will have long-term value and will support a variety of career opportunities for future CPAs.
